Renewable energy sources help to develop the internal economy
"Projects on implementation of renewable energy sources such as the construction of hydroelectric power stations or wind farms, allow people to create new jobs and contribute to the development of regions", - the official representative of the British bank «Co-operative Bank» said.
He also noted that the amount of bank loans for projects on alternative energy from 2007 reached more than half a billion pounds. By 2013, the bank plans to raise this figure to 1 billion pounds sterling. At present, the Bank has supported 108 new renewable energy projects. The total cost of each project is not more than 25 million pounds. Such projects are usually carried out by small companies, community cooperatives, or landowners. These projects are: installing wind turbines, hydropower stations, and thermal power plants and combined use of biomass.
Richard Wilcox, the head of the department of social projects of the bank said: "At the same time when many communities are struggling to survive in the condition of economic challenges, small and medium-sized initiatives to develop renewable energy sources allow them to be more able to create new jobs and help in diversification of local economy."
