The Board of Directors of the World Bank approved the allocation of $ 250 million to support the project for the development of renewable energy sources in South Africa. The project involves the construction of solar thermal power station in Abington and several wind farms in the district of Sere.
Money will be allocated as a loan through the Clean Technology Fund and will be delivered to the South African energy company.

The loan will help  to implement two major projects on alternative energy, which was once implemented in Africa. The first one is on the construction of solar power station of 100 MW power(which  uses technology of  concentration of sunlight). And the second one is on  wind energy, in which the total installed capacity of wind turbines should reach 100 MW.

The decision on granting a loan was taken shortly before the 17th conference of the parties of countries-participants of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The conference should take place in the South African city of Durban from November 28 to December 9, 2011.
